As a recovering corporate executive, I see clearly from your piece, that I have brought the horizon effect into my retirement -- with both distant and short task horizons. It's an exhausting and unfulfilling way to exist. Never arriving. Thank you for illuminating this for me. ❤️
John, I enjoyed reading your What Horizons Are For post. I have lived a similar but much more chaotic life having abrupt changes of course and new horizons. It seems that some horizons can be close and it is possible to focus on these and bring into your present in quickly. Other horizons are more distant and are conditional with respect to your changing perspective. I find that life is lived in the present only when you look for the beauty that is always there for you to see and appreciate. The pain and suffering we endure on our adventure can, and probably should, make the wonder of living our unique life more profound.
Powerful. Profound.
